Three TPS programs have been cancelled in the past three months. The recent announcement about the end of TPS for Haiti follows cancellations of programs for Sudan and Nicaragua. Pending decisions about TPS for Honduras and El Salvador leave hundreds of thousands of people in limbo. Advocates are united in a call for Congress to legislate a pathway to permanent residency that will allow long-time TPS holders to stay in their homes and jobs. Multiple bills have been introduced by bipartisan members of Congress in past weeks. There is much work to do in helping the right bill advance for vote, but the first step is understanding what is—and isn’t—included in each of these legislative proposals.
