On April 5 the American Bar Association Law Business Section is offering a free, two hour CLE accredited program on representing unaccompanied children through the immigration process. Upon completion of the training, attendees will be offered the opportunity to participate in the Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) project, representing unaccompanied children in immigration proceedings. KIND is an established pro bono project in Washington DC that will identify and screen clients, and provide mentors and support. This CLE session taught by experienced immigration lawyers and trainers provides lawyers with the tools needed to competently represent children in the immigration courts. Upon completion of the training, attendees will be offered the opportunity to participate in immigration proceedings representing unaccompanied children, through established pro bono programs, in their respective states, that identify and screen clients, and provide mentors and support. Panelists will discuss representing unaccompanied children in immigration proceedings, with an emphasis on T visas (trafficking), U visas (crime victims, including trafficking victims), SIJS visas (special immigrant juvenile status), and DACA (deferred action for childhood arrivals). All Spring Meeting registrants are welcome to participate in this program.
