Co-Director of Organizaing, Make the Road New York


Make the Road New York (MRNY) is a 23,000 member-strong membership organization that catalyzes broad city, state and national public policy reform from the ground up.  Through organizing, high-quality service provision and advocacy, MRNY works to promote equity and opportunity for working class communities of color in New York State.

MRNY is seeking a Full Time Co-Director of Organizing to supervise multiple organizing projects and organizers. The Director will also coordinate our leadership development work across the department and other staff teams. Organizing projects might include (but limited to) civil rights and immigration, TGNCIQ, and our work in Long Island.


  • Coordinate the work of Make the Road New York Organizing Team with the current Director of Organizing, including membership assembly and democracy day
  • Help develop shared goals with the organizing team and create support structures to help the team meet those goals.
  • Supervise, support and provide leadership development opportunities to lead organizers and base organizers
  • Strengthen our membership recruitment and leadership development models with the organizing team
  • Work with key member leaders of the organization to develop and move forward key campaigns of the organization
  • Supervise, support and provide leadership development opportunities to lead organizers and base organizers
  • Collaborate with our service directors to continue to think through how our organizing connects with our services teams.
  • Manage campaigns at the city, state and federal levels
  • Represent the organization in political meetings, coalitions spaces and campaign strategy meetings
  • Help to implement, manage administrative/reporting etc systems in coordination with our finance and administrative teams
  • Support our fundraising work


  • At least 5 years of experience of community or labor organizing work
  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or equivalent experience
  • Prior supervision experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Open to working some evenings and weekends
  • Experience with fundraising including grant writing, reporting and grassroots fundraising is preferred
  • Ability to communicate in both Spanish and English
  • Creative thinker with outstanding management skills
  • Ability to develop specific project goals, implement new strategies and use social media communications to advance our campaigns
