Refugee and Immigrants Program Associate, The Advocates For Human Rights

The Advocates for Human Rights provides free legal representation to low-income asylum seekers, human trafficking survivors, unaccompanied children and detained immigrants in the Upper Midwest.  Consistent with its mission of building the human rights movement by involving volunteers in human rights work, The Advocates recruits, trains, and supports a pro bono panel of over 300 attorneys handling asylum cases before the Asylum Office, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service, Immigration Court, Board of Immigration Appeals, and Federal Courts of Appeal.  The Advocates participates in coalitions of local and national legal service providers to ensure that asylum seekers in the United States have access to legal services.

The Program Associate has daily client contact including conducting client intake interviews by phone and in person, assisting clients with application preparation, and providing referrals; coordinates the Volunteer Interpreter Panel by recruiting, training and managing assignments for volunteer interpreters; coordinates the program’s interns; provides clerical and administrative support to the program and greater organization, including assisting with the client database management.  The Program Associate reports to the Refugee and Immigrant Program Director, working with the rest of the Program staff to ensure that high-quality legal services are delivered to clients.
