Associate Director, Miami Law Immigration Clinic

Launched in 2009, the Immigration Clinic represents low-income immigrants in immigration court and before the Board of Immigration Appeals. The clinic engages in affirmative individual and class action litigation in the U.S. District Courts and the U.S. Courts of Appeals.

 

Position:

The University of Miami School of Law’s Clinical Program t is hiring a Associate Director of its Immigration Clinic, one of ten clinics offered at Miami Law. The position is anticipated to start in either January 2023 or May to mid-August 2024. Applicants will be considered on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Preference will be given to applicants who apply before September 30, 2022. The Associate Director will join the vibrant and supportive Miami Law clinical program, currently ranked in the top 30 on U.S. News and World Reports’ list of the best clinical training programs. The Associate Director will have the opportunity to work with the Director to articulate a vision to take the Immigration Clinic’s strong foundation to the next level and build on the Clinic’s national reputation.

 

Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the Director, run all aspects of the clinic
  • Teach clinic classes
  • Supervise students
  • Manage cases and projects
  • Represent clients

Qualifications:

  •  At least three years of legal practice experience
  • JD degree
  •  Significant experience in the field of immigration law
  •  Teaching experience or an enthusiasm for clinical teaching, student development, and training
  • A demonstrated commitment to social justice
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  •  A bar license from any state. Willingness to sit for the Florida Bar is preferred to permit appearance as counsel in U.S. District Court in Florida
  • Proficiency in Spanish or Creole is not required but is a strong plus
