Volunteer Education Project Coordinator, Immigration Advocates Network

The Immigration Advocates Network (IAN) is a project of Pro Bono Net. Our mission is to improve access to justice through partnerships, public education, pro bono engagement. We create our own tools and build platforms for others to better support immigrants and advocates.

Position:

The Volunteer Education Project VISTA will improve access to justice by encouraging pro bonos to learn immigration law and offer their services. You will update, maintain, and promote an online resource center; and work with partners and experts in the field to collect and create training materials. This position is a part of a 11-member VISTA cadre at Fordham Law School’s Feerick Center for Social Justice. In addition to the camaraderie and network the team brings, you will also have monthly check-ins with the Feerick Center Executive Director, weekly program meetings with senior staff, monthly professional development workshops led by the VISTA Leader, and opportunities to attend NYC networking events. The position term is 08/01/2022  -   07/31/2023.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Legal Director to curate, create, and promote training resources for pro bono lawyers and connect them to volunteer opportunities
  • Learn about legal careers by working with partners in nonprofit direct services, training and technical support, and pro bono practice
  • Learn the law as you research and evaluate the latest immigration legal practice advisories, policy changes, trainings, and guides, to select the most helpful for new pro bonos and nonprofit staff
  • Develop your own training and speaking skills on webinars and podcasts
  • Design outreach materials and strategies to promote our resource center and encourage pro bonos to learn and volunteer
  • Update and promote our National Volunteer Guide and initiate a new hotline pilot project to match volunteers to opportunities

 

Qualifications:

  • College graduate
  • Age 20 or older
  • Writing/Editing skills
  • Communications skills
  • Comfortable with computers/technology
  • Ability to work on a team and independently
