The 'Trauma Exposure Toolbox' series is for new immigration attorneys and legal staff in their first 3-5 years of practice!

Trauma Exposure Toolbox: Session 1 on Tuesday 10/10/23 - Trauma Informed Immigration Lawyering
This session will lay the foundation for trauma informed immigration lawyering. The session will provide background on how trauma affects the brain and body and introduce the fundamental skills needed for trauma-informed immigration lawyering, including: active listening; proactive responding to traumatic content when preparing applications for relief; interview/appointment preparation; and mindful expectation setting with the client.

Trauma Exposure Toolbox: Session 2 on Tuesday 10/17/23- Cultivating Healthy Boundaries with Immigrant Clients
This session will focus on skills for cultivating healthy boundaries with immigrant clients. The session will equip participants with communication strategies for establishing and maintaining client boundaries, including boundaries with social media; discuss procedural postures in immigration cases when boundary issues may arise; describe steps needed to develop cultural competence when navigating boundary differences with immigrant clients; and discuss boundary setting between attorney professional and personal lives.

Trauma Exposure Toolbox: Session 3 on Tuesday 10/24/23- Trauma Exposure Time Management
This session will introduce strategies for navigating trauma exposure time management - the process by which attorneys/legal staff integrate different types of tasks alongside work that involves navigating traumatic content. This session will help attorneys and legal staff identify the types of work which may trigger trauma exposure - such as affidavit prep, review of client evidence and country conditions evidence, and hearing/interview preparation - and provide time management suggestions to counteract negative trauma exposure responses

Trauma Exposure Toolbox: Session 4 on Tuesday 10/31/2023 - Vicarious Trauma Self Assessment & Intentional Recovery Practices
This session will equip attorneys and legal staff with self assessment tools to identify and measure personal levels of trauma exposure responses over the course of one's career. The session will also discuss recovery practices for triggering situations and intentional recovery practices for the long-term.

Cost: $100 for the 4 session workshop series. To keep costs down, we will not be offering CLE credit for these sessions. Sessions will be recorded but only available to those who register.

The fees for this workshops series go towards Mariposa Legal's Expert Fund to assist with fees for academic and professional experts who provide critical affidavits and testimony in support of client cases. Because this is a fundraiser, no refunds will be provided for the workshop series this year.
