Topics:
  • Post-Asylum Issues
  • Political asylum

This session will provide an introductory overview of asylum law, and will lay the foundation for subsequent NYIC trainings on November 9 and November 18 that will provide a deep dive into asylum claims based on fear of gangs and asylum claims related specifically to gender. In this introductory session participants will learn the basic elements of an asylum claim, the evidentiary standard for asylum, and bars to asylum. We will discuss the affirmative and defensive asylum process and will conclude with a look at related forms of relief when asylum is not available. This session will be led by Immigrant Advocates Response Collaborative director Camille Mackler.
