Immigration & The Consequences of Criminal Convictions

This program will provide attendees with an insider's view of basic concepts of immigration law and the noncitizen criminal defendant. The expert panel features Supreme Judicial Court and Appeals Court Justices, Superior and District Court judges, and a CPCS attorney. The panelists will present on immigration basics, post-conviction relief, and changes in pleas. Specific attention will be paid to Padilla motions (Padilla v. Kentucky, 559 U.S. 356 (2010)) and Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 278, Sect. 29D, motions. In addition, the panel solicits questions in advance of the program that will be addressed in the presentations. Submit questions to QandA@socialaw.com.

Cost and Registration:
Register for the program here. The cost is $65 for SLL members and CPCS staff, bar advocates and prosecutors and $85 for all others. CPCS approved for 3.5 hours of credit from the post-conviction panel, the adult criminal trial panel, and juvenile delinquency panel. Space is limited. Registrations accepted in order of receipt. Same day registrations are $5.00 extra. Registration fees are non-refundable.
