CCIJ, in partnership with detained leaders, has been working on this report for several months. It highlights the abysmal food conditions at Mesa Verde Detention Facility and Golden State Annex and draws connections to systemic problems and coercive detention practices. This report includes testimonies, data points, and policy recommendations that state and local public health officials can implement with respect to food quality and safety inside detention facilities, while ensuring private prison budgets do not increase.
