Please join us for a six-unit course that will cover the skills needed to conduct efficient, comprehensive, compelling, and effective research and writing in immigration cases. Participants in this limited-enrollment course will have the opportunity to practice the skills they learn in short assignments after each class and then receive model answers and feedback on selected ones. Topics covered will include the following: an overview of the immigration legal system and how its structure guides the research process; researching, reading, and understanding sources of law, including secondary sources, the internet, statutes, regulations, and case law; organizing one’s writing in an efficient, clear, and compelling way; basic tips for clear English grammar; and developing a tone, voice, story, or theme for compelling writing.

Course Structure: The course starts on March 9 with access to the e-learning website. All six units consist of a live, interactive webinar and a set of self-directed activities, which include readings and an exercise. The webinars will be recorded, allowing students the flexibility to work the sessions into their busy schedules. The course is interactive and offers opportunities for online and real-time discussion among and between students and instructors. Instructors will also give model answers for each unit exercise and individualized feedback to students who timely submit their work.
