Calling all organizers and community defenders! Looking to level up your knowledge of immigration law and deportation defense to support your organizing? The National Immigration Project is excited to offer for the second year our course, “Removal Defense for Community Defenders,” and we invite you to apply!
Who is this training for?
Organizers and community defenders who are engaged in removal defense work or supporting raids response in their communities as part of an organization, coalition, or rapid response network. *This course is NOT for attorneys.*
What can I expect to learn?
Through this training, you can expect to learn the basics of removal defense so that you can have a greater ability to collaborate with lawyers on cases and assist pro se community members. We will focus on achieving a deeper understanding of the removal defense system and common forms of immigration relief and build writing skills for the kinds of writing most important for supporting community members in their removal defense proceedings: letters of support and declarations. Finally, we will share tips for responding to immigration enforcement and working with the media.
When will this training take place?
This 10-week course will start on May 15, 2025 and will take place weekly on Thursdays through July 17, 2025. We will meet virtually on Zoom.
Do I have to pay to participate?
This training is free for all accepted participants.
Learn more about the training series and find the link to the application here. Be sure to apply by April 10, 2025, if you would like to participate.
