This two-part webinar series (Jan. 16 & 23, 2025) will cover the fundamentals of obtaining Special Immigrant Juvenile (SIJ) classification and SIJ-based adjustment for children who have suffered abuse, abandonment, or neglect by one or both parents. Topics covered will include interviewing potential clients and screening them for eligibility, obtaining the state court predicate order, which state courts qualify as “juvenile courts,” completing Form I-360 with required evidence, and eligibility for adjustment of status. The presenters will also discuss the impact of the visa bulletin and what options a SIJ youth may have while waiting for their priority date to become current. This series focuses on affirmative relief and will not cover special considerations related to clients in removal proceedings.
