Day One
Day 1 will provide an overview of the legal elements for naturalization and red flag issues that can cause an applicant to be denied or even deported, including lawful admission as an LPR, and continuous residence and physical presence requirements. We will go into depth on several non-crime good moral character issues such as smuggling, non-payment of taxes and child support, selective service registration, false testimony, false claims to U.S. citizenship, illegal voting, etc.
Day Two
The morning of day two will cover the disability waiver of English, civics and oath waivers. We will also discuss the various ways children can acquire citizenship. In the afternoon we will focus on FOIA, the new N-400 form and best practices, and finish with a session on reduced fees and fee waivers for naturalization.
Who can attend?
This training is FREE for the following:
- Participating staff from nonprofit organizations working on naturalization and citizenship issues and their dedicated volunteer attorneys.
- Private immigration legal workers working on naturalization cases who make a pro bono commitment to a non-profit immigration service provider or volunteer at a naturalization workshop.
All participants will receive a free electronic version of the ILRC's popular publication, Naturalization and U.S. Citizenship: The Essential Legal Guide, 17th Edition.
