Spanish language skills play an important role in representing noncitizens who are native-Spanish speakers, allowing counsel to communicate directly with clients, verify translations and interpretations, and raise objections to errors in interpretation or translation. This webinar will address the advantages and responsibilities of Spanish proficiency/fluency in the immigration context, review key immigration-related vocabulary, offer strategic suggestions for addressing errors in translations and/or interpretations in before the immigration agencies and courts, and provide a list of resources for improving legal Spanish.

The webinar will be presented by Sylvia Novinsky, Director of the NC Pro Bono Resource Center and longtime adjunct professor of Spanish for American Lawyers, and experienced immigration attorneys, Claudia Valenzuela, Managing Attorney, Immigrant Legal Defense, and Carlos Moctezuma García, Partner, García & García Attorneys at Law, PLLC.

This webinar is suitable for attorneys with a beginner or intermediate level Spanish.
