Immigrant victims of crime in the US may be fearful to report crimes or seek help because of their immigration status. However, US law provides immigrant victims of crimes several protections. Victims of violent crimes, like domestic violence or human trafficking, may qualify for U or T visas.
Join the City of Philadelphia's Office of Domestic Violence Strategies and the Office of Immigrant Affairs for a panel presentation on U and T visa certification.
Speakers will be representatives from the the United States Citizen and Immigration Services Office of Policy and Strategy, Nationalities Service Center, HIAS, and the Philadelphia Police Department, Philadelphia Department of Human Services, and Philadelphia District Attorney's Office.
Topics
This webinar is recommended for attorneys and advocates working with immigrant victims of crime. This webinar may also be useful for staff from other certifying agencies to hear about practices in Philadelphia, PA. Webinar attendees will hear from USCIS about U and T visas, from Philadelphia's certifying agencies about how certification decisions are made, and from immigration legal services about their experiences working to get certifications.
