This training is in-person; there will be no call-in or recorded option.

This free defensive asylum trial advocacy training will involve a mock asylum trial in immigration court proceedings that centers common objections to documentary evidence and how to over come them. Additionally, CGRS will also cover laying foundation for and authenticating documentary evidence, closing arguments, strategies for persuasive trial advocacy in asylum and related fear-of-return cases, and questioning on direct, cross, and re-direct examination. Interactive participation is highly encouraged and will include break-out groups.

Prerequisite: Participants should already be familiar with substantive asylum law, basic immigration court procedure, and the Federal Rules of Evidence. We will not be reviewing those topics during this training.
