  • Political asylum

This workshop will discuss the substantive law surrounding particular social group formulation in various types of asylum cases, including claims involving violence against women and children, and fear of gangs. Participants will work through real-life asylum cases that involve persecution based upon an individual's membership in a particular social group. Familiarity with basic asylum law is required.

Participants working on cases involving particular social groups are encouraged to submit their cases to discuss during the workshop. If you have previously submitted a request for assistance to CGRS, include the CGRS Case Number in your RSVP. If you have not previously submitted a request for assistance to CGRS, please submit a request to provide details about your case and obtain a CGRS Case Number at: https://cgrs.uchastings.edu/assistance/request. We cannot guarantee we can workshop all cases, but will do our best to discuss common themes amongst cases submitted if possible. Please RSVP by July 11, 2019.
