Introduction to New York Immigrant Family Unity Project

This training will provide an overview of the New York Immigrant Family Unity Project (NYIFUP), a statewide program to provide universal representation for low-income immigrants who are detained and facing deportation. Representatives from each of the organizations in New York State who provide representation through NYIFUP will be on the line to discuss who is eligible for NYIFUP representation, what typically happens in the first hearing before an Immigration Judge, and the difficult realities regarding bond and release. Providers will also discuss how community-based organizations and advocates can support and educate family members about what to expect and how to support their loved one’s legal representation.
