Addressing Criminal Convictions to Establish Eligibility for Resident Status or Naturalization

Topics:
  • Naturalization

This webinar will address steps legal services providers and pro bono lawyers may adopt when a criminal background check indicate that their client may not be eligible for lawful permanent resident status or naturalization. We will discuss some convictions that, unless modified, automatically disqualify applicants from legalization or naturalizations and other lesser convictions that nevertheless impact on good moral character. We will discuss what documents are necessary to analyze a prior conviction, how convictions may be set aside and replaced with less severe convictions, expunged, or vacated, and time periods that may overcome the impact of convictions on naturalization.
