Minnesota Detention Project Volunteer Training

Topics:
  • Detention
  • Advocacy

In anticipation of increased detention of immigrants, please join us for a CLE to orient interested attorneys and interpreters to volunteering with the Minnesota Detention Project. Volunteers are needed to assist with everything from client intake, interpretation, representation in master calendar and bond hearings, application preparation and representation at merits hearings. The training will include a series of simulated hearings to expose volunteers to real-time issues that arise in the context of representing detained immigrants.

Presenters:

  • Sarah Brenes, Director, Refugee and Immigrant Program, The Advocates for Human Rights
  • Linus Chan, Director Detainee Rights Clinic, University of Minnesota Law School
