Over the past year, thousands of unaccompanied children (UACs) have fled Central America seeking safety and refuge in Maryland. Many of these children are desperately in need of legal representation. One common form of relief, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) for children who have been abused, abandoned, or neglected by one or more parents, involves representation of the childs sponsor in family court. Maryland-barred attorneys are invited to take this training to learn how to represent the sponsor in the family court - completing the vital first step in obtaining SIJS for an unaccompanied child.
