The Zolberg Institute on Migration and Mobility at The New School hosts a panel entitled “The Trump Executive Orders on Immigration and Refugees: A legal and policy discussion.” Donald Trump has issued Executive Orders on immigration that call for increased border enforcement, construction of a wall on the southwest border and mandatory detention of persons apprehended seeking unauthorized entry to the U.S. Trump’s Executive Order on “Protecting the Nation from Foreign Terrorist Entry” imposes a 90 day travel ban on persons coming from seven predominantly Muslim countries, suspends U.S. refugee admissions, and cuts overall refugee admission to the U.S. by more than 50 percent. A panel of experts will discuss the legal and policy implications of the Executive Orders, and the impact they will have on immigrants, refugees, their families and their communities. The panel, moderated by the Zolberg Institute’s Director Alex Aleinikoff, includes Professor Alexandra Delano (Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts), Eleanor Acer (Human Rights First), Muz Chishti (Migration Policy Institute), and Nisha Agarwal (Commissioner, NYC Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs – invited).
