Help Asylum-Seekers

Topics:
  • Refugees
  • Political asylum

On Wednesday November 16th, UNHCR will be hosting a free webinar on how to use international law and UNHCR guidance to represent asylum-seekers in the U.S. We are also excited to announce the launch of a new website designed to assist attorneys representing asylum-seekers in the U.S. The website can be found at http://www.unhcr.org/en-us/attorney-resources.html and on UNHCR’s website under the “About Us: Resources and Publications” tab. As part of our project launched this past summer to enhance the capacity of representation in the U.S., our office has developed resources that break-down how to use UNHCR guidelines, reports, and international law in U.S. asylum proceedings. This website makes these resources, along with additional materials, readily available to attorneys in the field. We hope that attorneys will view this website as a “tool-kit” for preparing asylum cases. The website will be continually updated with resources and information about future webinars. In the coming months, we anticipate hosting additional webinars on children’s asylum claims, gender-based asylum claims, LGBTI asylum claims, and statelessness in the U.S.
