  • 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM
  • Eastern Time (US & Canada)
  • By: Office of the Citizenship and Immigration Services Ombudsman, U.S. Department of Homeland Security
  • This event takes place telephonically.
Topics:
  • Special Immigrant Juvenile Status
  • Immigrant Children

Please join the Office of the Citizenship and Immigration Services Ombudsman for a teleconference on issues related to the Special Immigrant Juvenile (SIJ) program. The Ombudsman issued recommendations to USCIS on SIJ-related issues in November 2015 and received USCIS’ response on April 22, 2016. Recently, the Department of State (DOS) announced there are no available visas for children from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico who qualify for SIJ status due to visas being oversubscribed for those countries. This teleconference will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to hear about the current situation affecting SIJ applicants and an opportunity to share concerns and experiences.

Registration:
Please RSVP with “SIJ Teleconference” in the subject line by Wednesday, June 15, 2016 to CISOmbudsman.PublicAffairs@hq.dhs.gov.  Teleconference call-in information will be provided upon RSVP. The Ombudsman hosts a monthly public teleconference series to share information about relevant topics and provide an opportunity to hear feedback from the community about issues related to the delivery of immigration benefits and services.
