The panel will address the marketplace for immigration bonds, including private bonding companies that require GPS ankle bracelet monitoring, restrictive terms of release, and/or burdensome pricing schemes. They will engage participants in a discussion of consumer and legal protections, and creative strategies for advocating on behalf of immigrants who secure their release from detention on bond by contracting with private immigration bond companies. Please come prepared to share your ideas. The panelists are Simon Sandoval-Moshenberg, Legal Director, Immigrant Advocacy Program, Legal Aid Justice Center; Anne Schaufele, Project END Staff Attorney, Ayuda; and Mary Small, Policy Director, Detention Watch Network.
