Documenting U.S. Citizenship: Fighting the Battle on All Fronts

Topics:
  • Citizenship
  • Naturalization

Some U.S. citizens have to fight to be recognized as such; even obtaining a copy of one’s U.S. birth certificate can be problematic. Often, the battles over procuring documents of citizenship are with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the U.S. Department of State (DOS). This advanced-level seminar will address the problems often faced by clients who find themselves having to prove their U.S. citizenship, whether they were born in the United States or abroad.

Featured Topics:

  • “Problem” U.S. Birth Cases: Midwives, Home Births, and Delayed Birth Certificates
  • State Administrative Procedures for Issuing Birth Certificates
  • U.S. Passport Denials for “Problem” Birth Cases
  • Acquisition of U.S. Citizenship
  • 8 USC §1503 Litigation
