This training will provide an in-depth review of Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) cases, including an overview of the underlying proceedings in New York Family Court, with a special emphasis on custody and guardianship, and how to address complex issues such as conflicts of interest, courts inexperienced with SIJS, and fingerprinting and home-study issues. The faculty will examine the relevant case law, including appellate cases on reunification, "similar basis," and one-parent cases. In addition, the training will cover the immigrant petition process, including complex issues such as Requests for Evidence (RFEs), inadmissibility, and working with different district offices.
