Our immigration system is failing us. Humane immigration policy reform awaits attention from Congress and the Administration. Arizona and other states are enacting controversial local policies.

Current law is separating children and families, undermining the development of healthy individuals and strong communities. Nearly 1 in 10 American families are of mixed immigration status, where at least one parent is a non-citizen, and at least one child a citizen. Between 1997 and 2007, more than 100,000 children (mostly U.S. citizens) have been separated from a legal permanent resident parent who was deported.

Members of the faith and human rights communities will offer a briefing on these important issues of immigration policy. They will introduce families and children who have experienced the impact of these policies first hand. Ajay Chaudry of the Urban Institute will discuss their recent report, Facing Our Future: Children in the Aftermath of Immigration Enforcement. And policy experts will discuss potential solutions.
