This two-day training will provide in-depth coverage of select topics in family-based immigration including:
-Establishing qualifying relationships for family-based petitions;
-Child Status Protection Act;
-Immigrating through marriage;
-Recent changes in the law on widow(er) petitions and relief for other survivors following the death of the petitioner;
-Inadmissibility for unlawful presence and prior removal orders;
-Affidavit of support;
-Applying for residency through adjustment of status and consular processing; and other issues.
Note that this training assumes the practitioner is knowledgeable about the basic principles of family-based immigration and needs more in-depth instruction and updated information. It is not an introductory training and is not intended for new immigration advocates.
The training will be presented by CLINIC attorneys Jennie Guilfoyle and Kristina Karpinski.
The training is for the staff of Catholic Charities and other community-based organizations with IRS 501(c)(3) status, and attorneys and legal staff of private law offices. If you are registering as staff of a community-based organization, you must fax a copy of your IRS 501(c)(3) letter designating your agency as a nonprofit entity to CLINIC at 415-394-8696 to the attention of Chris Ozaki. Your registration will be confirmed upon receipt of this letter. If you are an attorney, please include your state bar number. Payment is by credit card only.
