The National Immigration Project and the National Police Accountability Project of the National Lawyers Guild have partnered to co-host a continuing legal education (CLE) training on litigation to redress law enforcement misconduct in the immigration context.

The all-day training will focus on using litigation as a tool to hold law enforcement accountable for misconduct and abuse committed against noncitizens in detention facilities, during worksite and home raids, vehicle stops, and on the border. We will cover all aspects of litigation under the Federal Tort Claims Act, Bivens, and ยง 1983 actions with a special focus on surviving motions to dismiss and discovery. The training is intended for both immigration attorneys and police misconduct attorneys representing victims of misconduct and abuse.

JUST ADDED: WE WILL ALSO HAVE AN (OPTIONAL) SPECIAL LUNCH SESSION REGARDING LITIGATION AGAINST THE NEW IMMIGRATION LAW IN ARIZONA.

The one-day CLE training will take place on Friday, May 21, 2010, from 9am-5pm at the Bar Center of the State Bar of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico and will be funded through a grant from the Four Freedoms Foundation. A reception will immediately follow the seminar.
