Comprehensive immigration reform, which would include a legalization program for unauthorized immigrants, is once again on the political and policy agenda. Many argue that a legalization program -which could extend to some 11 million immigrants-would have significant effects on the US economy. For example, newly legal immigrants may change jobs, earn more income, and compete differently with native workers in the labor market. In "Immigrant Legalization: Assessing the Labor Market Effects," Public Policy Institute of California researchers Laura Hill and Magnus Lofstrom examine potential labor market outcomes and other possible economic effects of a legalization program.
