Curriculum:

This intensive one day training will cover the law and procedure of U nonimmigrant status for victims of certain crimes. The trainers will discuss the eligibility requirements for U status; law enforcement certification issues, waivers of the grounds of inadmissibility; strategies for preparing winning applications; and adjustment of status for U nonimmigrants.

This is an interactive training with both individual and group exercises. The training materials will include sample U status application packets and inadmissibility waivers.

The training is for the staff of Catholic Charities and other community-based organizations with IRS 501(c)(3) status, and attorneys and legal worker staff of private law offices. The training is intended for legal workers and lawyers with little or no experience with U status, and for more experienced advocates in need of review or updates.

Trainers:

The training will be presented by CLINIC Attorneys Sarah Bronstein and Debbie Smith. Speakers include Edna Yang, General Counsel of American Gateways (formerly PAPA), Linda Brandmiller, Immigration Program Director, Attorney at Catholic Charities San Antonio, and other invited speakers.

Cost:

$160 per person for CLINIC affiliates and staff of 501(c)(3) non-profit programs; $480 office location cap
($60 fee per person for more than 3 people from the same office address)

$270 per person for private attorneys and their staff
