The Immigration Law Training Seminar for Private Practice Attorneys is specifically designed for for-profit attorneys. Paralegals and non-profit personnel seeking accreditation pursuant to 8 C.F.R. § 292.2 are also welcome to attend and should find the course extremely helpful.
This is the eleventh annual seminar offered by the Midwest Legal Immigration Project (MLIP), and we use the Guide for Immigrant Advocates published by ILRC.
The course, itself, is very intensive and thorough. We uniformly have received a very good response from seminar attendees. This is the only such basic week long immigration law seminar offered on a regular basis open to all persons offered in the United States on a regular annual basis.
This seminar covers both basic legal immigration law, and also includes significant segments on representing aliens in deportation proceedings before the immigration courts, and representation of aliens with habeas cases in both District Courts as well as before the United States Courts of Appeals. There is a full discussion of legal theory as well as practical tips on contesting and winning immigration cases. Additionally, there will be some discussion on the practical aspects of running a private practice focused on immigration law, including such things as communication with clients, handling difficult issues involving clients, contracts, and the basic financial aspects of a for-profit immigration law practice, including the charging and collection of fees and related matters.
- CLE Credit Comments: We will assist both attorneys in applying for CLE credit and non-profit personnel seeking accreditation under 8 C.F.R. § 292.2 following completion of the seminar.
