Citizenship: Acquisition, Derivation, and Naturalization

Curriculum:

This intensive two-day training course will cover acquisition and derivation of citizenship, and the requirements for naturalization, including residence, physical presence, good moral character, civics and English language requirements and exemptions, disability waivers, oath requirements and the application process. The training is interactive with individual and group exercises. An application for Texas CLE is pending.

This training is for the staff of Catholic Charities and other community-based organizations with IRS 501(c)(3) status, and attorneys and legal worker staff of private law offices. This training is intended for legal workers and lawyers new to this area of immigration law as well as more experienced practitioners in need of review or updates.

Trainers:

The training will be presented by Susan Schreiber, Attorney with Catholic Legal Immigration Network (CLINIC), and Debbie Smith, Project Director, Immigration Advocates Network, CLINIC. They will be joined on day two of the training by guest speakers Albert W. Blakeway, Field Office Director for San Antonio CIS Field Office, and Juanita G. Reyes, Immigration Services Officer.

Cost:

$210 per person for staff at CLINIC affiliates; $630 cap for up to three staff
($30 materials fee per person for more than 3 attendees from same office site)

$235 per person for nonprofit program staff; $705 cap for up to three staff/site
($30 materials fee per person for more than 3 attendees from the same office site.)

$365 per person for private attorneys and their staff

Lunch is not included. A light breakfast will be provided.

Please note that the registration fee does NOT include a training manual. You are not required to purchase a manual, and other training materials will be provided. If you wish to purchase Naturalization and U.S Citizenship: The Essential Guide, 10th Edition, by the Immigrant Legal Resource Center, you must pay an additional $100 fee in advance at the time of registration. Note: the manual is not available for purchase at the training.

The deadline for registration is January 19, 2010. Note that if you are ordering the manual, you must do so when registering by January 12; after that date, it will be too late to order the book in time for receipt at the training. Lodging: A block of rooms as been reserved at the San Antonio Downtown Market Square Hotel, where the training is being held. If you chose to stay at this hotel, please call 800 222 TREE or 210 224 7155 and mention the CLINIC block of rooms when making your reservation. The CLINIC rate is $79.00 single or double occupancy and the room block is on hold until January 8, 2010.

Transportation: There is free parking at the hotel for lodgers and for commuter training participants.

If you are coming from the airport, shuttle service is available through Airport Express at a cost of $18.00 one way, $34.00 round-trip. Cab fare from the airport to the hotel is approximately $40.00.
