The Raids Response Training will cover immigrants' rights when questioned by Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) as well as the steps to take once under arrest by ICE or police operating under 287(g). Training materials include a "Know Your Rights" that can be used for immigrant outreach activities.

The goal of this training is to provide raid preparedness and response tools to those who work with the immigrant communities in Virginia to help them prepare those communities in case of raids. Better educating the immigrant community on the role of ICE and the rights of all persons, regardless of immigration status, will benefit those we are tasked to assist and will subdue some of the fear that ensues as a result of raids. Having raids response trained organizations and advocates dispersed throughout Virginia will provide immigrant communities with various points of contact for information on their rights and avenues for help.

Future Virginia know your rights trainings will be held in Prince William and Loudoun Counties later this year.

RSVP with Edgar Aranda at edgar@justice4all.org or 703-778-3450 by April 30, 2009.
