This two-day immigration law training course will help advocates recognize potential problems in their family-based cases, advise clients in their various options, and prepare effective waiver applications. The training will cover the major grounds of inadmissibility: health, fraud, false claims of citizenship, immigration violations, including unlawful presence, and criminal convictions. It will cover eligibility for all possible exceptions and waivers. Trainers will describe representation strategies and practice pointers in preparing and assembling the waiver packets, with an emphasis on the procedures followed in Ciudad Juarez. The training will be conducted by Charles Wheeler and Peggy Gleason. Both trainers each have over two decades of experience in immigration law dealing with this subject. Charles Wheeler is the author of numerous books on immigration law and is the director of CLINIC's training section. Peggy Gleason is a practicing attorney with D.C. Catholic Charities, as well as being a trainer for CLINIC. The training is geared for the staff of community-based organizations with IRS 501(c) (3) status, and attorneys and legal staff of private law offices. Space is limited. Register by July 15, or until filled. For more information, call Chris Ozaki at (415) 394-9371.
